From Memphis to Vegas

to the world . . .

Courtesy of Alex and Kylie, co-hostesses of the talk radio show “We Tell It Like It Is,” and with the cooperation of Program Director Jon Lindquist, who also produced this momentous broadcast, Yours in ELVIS Forever Fan Club President Thorne Peters hosted a two hour tribute show on KLAV 1230 AM Las Vegas on August 3, 2001, from his home on ELVIS PRESLEY BLVD, next door to fabled Graceland Mansion. Featuring rare interviews and uproarious studio outtakes, as well as vintage concert performances, from ELVIS himselvis, the program also showcases a wide variety of tribute music from Ronnie McDowell, Alana Miles, Ray Stevens, David Austin & The Jordanaires, E.P Memphis’ house band, The Dempseys, Amy Beth & The Hound Dogs, David Totten, Trint Carlini, ‘The Dream King’ performing at the Hilton in Las Vegas, and commemorative poetry and music composed and performed by Thorne—including a spontaneous live performance and a surprise recording of Thorne singing with the TCB Band . . . Alan Critzer from the ELVISARAMA Museum in Las Vegas makes a guest appearance.

“Thorne has a deep love for ELVIS and an abiding respect for his artistry and he is able to convey this in his narrative in a way that emotionally reaches listeners,” Jon Lindquist describes. The show was not only heard by those in the southern Nevada region, but by many loyal listeners worldwide via internet. “Throughout the show and directly afterwards we received emails and calls from around the world.” In fact so great was the acclaim for this show that KLAV broadcast it several more times in the weeks leading up to the Candlelight Vigil, in different time slots to accommodate listeners in other countries. “The response to the show was truly stunning and as a lifelong ELVIS fan I was moved that it touched so many people so deeply. This really was a special program and I was glad to have played a role in bringing it about.”

Of course this program would not have been possible if not for Alex & Kylie generously allowing Thorne to broadcast on their show. “We are big fans of ELVIS and we are big fans of Thorne, so it was a pleasure to do something nice for both of them and for all the people that got so much enjoyment when they listened to it —it’s a show that ELVIS fans will treasure always.”
